Good morning, everyone.

Last week, the Los Angeles Dodgers won the Major League Baseball World Series.

Their star pitcher, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, became a hero — not just because of his amazing skill, but because of his courage.

Yamamoto pitched Game 2 for the Dodgers.

He threw a complete game, and the Dodgers won 5–1.

The next game, Game 3, went into extra innings.

A normal baseball game has 9 innings, but if the score is tied, they keep playing until one team takes the lead.

Game 3 went all the way to the 17th inning — and the score was still tied.

The Dodgers were running out of pitchers. They needed help.

Normally, starting pitchers rest for several days before pitching again.

So no one — not even the Dodgers’ manager — expected Yamamoto to pitch.

But at that moment, Yamamoto went to his manager and said,

“If you need me, I can pitch.”

The manager said something back, and Yamamoto quietly walked away from the bench and into the locker room.

As he passed his Japanese teammate, Roki Sasaki, Sasaki asked him a question.

After Yamamoto answered, Sasaki turned to his translator and said,

“For real?”

Moments later, Yamamoto came out of the bullpen and began warming up.

Everyone was shocked.

“Yamamoto is warming up? He just threw game two!”

Fortunately, before Yamamoto entered the game, the Dodgers scored a run and won.

Even though he didn’t pitch that day, the media praised him for wanting to help his team — for not accepting just sitting on the bench and watching.

Later, Yamamoto pitched in Game 6.

Thanks to another dominant performance, the Dodgers won again — forcing a final Game 7.

Once again, Yamamoto was in a similar position.

It was Game 7 — the biggest and final game of the year.

The score was tied in the 9th inning.

Yamamoto sat on the bench, unable to do anything for his team.

He didn’t want to just sit and watch while his teammates fought without him.

Then, the manager made a bold decision: he put Yamamoto in the game.

He knew the risk — Yamamoto’s arm was tired, and if he failed, the whole world would blame him.

But the manager believed in him, because Yamamoto had already shown his heart and his desire to fight for his team.

With the entire season on the line, Yamamoto pitched the final 2⅔ innings, gave up no runs, and led the Dodgers to the championship.

After the game, the Dodgers’ manager said,

“There are certain players who want those moments — and Yamamoto is one of those guys.”

Because of his incredible courage and performance, Yamamoto was named World Series MVP.

His performance will be remembered as one of the greatest in baseball history.

Now, we may never stand on that kind of stage — pitching in the World Series —

but all of us face moments when we can either sit on the bench or take action.

As high school students, you’re thinking about your future — what you want to do, and who you want to become.

Those choices can be difficult. You might worry, “What if I make the wrong decision?”

But making the “right” or “wrong” decision isn’t the most important thing — because at that moment, you can’t know how it will turn out.

The real question is:

“Are you doing everything you can, or are you just watching life pass you by?”

Don’t be a bench player in your life.

Be the pitcher.

Take command.

Take responsibility.

Throw your best pitch.

If you succeed, thank God for giving you strength — and God will reward you.

If you fail, learn from it, grow, and try again — knowing that God is still with you.

Even if the Dodgers had lost because of Yamamoto, I believe his teammates would not have blamed him.

When you act with a pure heart and good intentions, whether you succeed or fail, the people around you will support and respect you.

As the Bible says in Joshua 1:9:

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged,
for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Let’s pray.
