Do you have any regrets? I do.  Rather than regret, I was unsure about a choice I made in the past. That choice was to enroll in Keiwa Gakuen High School.

First, I’ll talk about how I learned about Keiwa. I visited Keiwa for the school festival when I was 7 years. The students I saw there were fascinating. I was impressed by their dancing, and I thought, “I’d like to dance like them someday.” Later, I came to the festival again when I was 10, and even then, I was drawn to the dancing.  When I was in elementary school, I didn’t know much about other high schools, so I thought, I want to enroll in Keiwa!

However, in middle school, the friends around me were seriously choosing high schools based on their futures. Seeing them, I felt I needed to do the same. After that, I kept wondering whether I should study hard to go to a public high school or enroll at Keiwa. In the end, I chose Keiwa—not because it was my dream, but because I thought a public school would be too difficult for me. I like Keiwa, and this feeling has never changed. The festival, my wonderful friends, and the kind teachers… Isn’t that the same for some of you? But I was jealous of my friends who had studied hard to get into high school. If only I had worked harder…

What does enrolling in Keiwa mean to me? I often thought about this when I was a freshman. However, this year, an event changed my perspective. That event was the student council election.  Yes, the election I lost. But it was the moment I was most glad to have come to Keiwa. Running for student council president was the biggest decision of my life. It had always felt like a role far removed from me, but I decided to run because I wanted to improve Keiwa. I did my best, but I lost. Still, I was happy to have taken on the challenge, regardless of the result. That experience showed me what I was missing. After the election, I realized that I hadn’t worked hard enough before. It also made me see that choosing Keiwa was the best decision I could have made.

What I want to convey to everyone is that the choices we made in the past can either improve or worsen our present, depending on how we handle them now. Even if you’re not confident in the decisions you made back then, you must do your best in the present. Because even if those decisions were mistakes, they are part of the process leading to success. Instead of constantly regretting past choices, wouldn’t it be better to say, “It’s because of those choices that I am who I am today”? If we live without putting in any effort, only regret will remain. I will continue to make efforts and live a life without regrets.
