【聖書：エレミヤ書 29章 11-13節】

Tony Hawk is the greatest and most influential skateboarder of all time.
トニー・ホークは史上最も偉大で影響力のあるスケートボーダーです。

He turned skateboarding from a niche activity for delinquent teens into a worldwide sport, which is now even in the Olympics.
彼はスケートボードを『ヤンチャな若者の遊び』から、世界的なスポーツに変え、今やオリンピックの競技にもなっています。

Tony Hawk was the first person to do a 900 – two and a half rotations in the air.
トニー・ホークは空中で2回転半する900°というトリックを初めて成功させた最初の人物でもあります。

Now 55, Tony Hawk still loves skateboarding, but he can’t perform tricks like he did when he was younger.
現在55歳になったトニー・ホークは変わらずスケートボードが大好きですが、若い頃のようなトリックは披露できません。

At 48, he was able to do a 900 and said it was his last.
限界を感じたトニーは48歳で900°を成功させ、それが最後だと悟りました。

Then, at 52, he decided he was going to do an Ollie 540.
そして、52歳で「オーリー540」をやることに決めました。

A trick which is one and a half rotations, but without touching your board.
それはボードに触れずに1回転半するトリックです。

After numerous attempts and falls, he kept getting back up until eventually he did this.

His accomplishment went viral worldwide, but not for what he did, an Ollie 540 at 52, but rather for his reaction to his successful trick.

The greatest skateboarder of all time, who has performed this trick hundreds, if not thousands of times, falls to his knees and breaks down crying.

The emotion was too much to control.

Tony Hawk realized at that moment that he was never going to do that again.

The single thing he loved more than anything else was coming to an end.
彼が何よりも愛していたものが終わりを迎えようとしていました。

But luckily, he had the opportunity to know of this ending and fully appreciate the moment.
しかし幸運なことに、彼はその終わりを知り、その瞬間を十分に味わう機会に恵まれました。

For all of the third year students, an ending to a monumental stage of life is coming in just 39 days; the graduation of high school.

As we approach this significant milestone, we often reflect on life – the past and the future.

Life, with its unpredictable twists and turns, often unfolds with a blend of unexpected and anticipated conclusions.
人生には、予測できない出来事や紆余曲折あり、多くの場合、予想外の結末と予期された結末が混在します。

Graduation is one of those anticipated endings—the culmination of years of hard work, growth, and shared experiences.
卒業はその予測された結末の1つであり、数年間の努力、成長、一緒に過ごした経験の集大成です。

It’s a time when you put on your gray blazer for one last time, walk across the stage, and receive your diploma—a symbol of achievement and a key to the next chapter of your lives.
最後に灰色のブレザーを着て、ステージを歩き、達成の象徴であり、人生の次の章への鍵となる卒業証書を受け取る時です。

Yet, intertwined with the joy of this expected ending, there lies a profound lesson about the transient nature of life.
しかし、予測できる結末の喜びと絡み合って、人生はかない性質についての深い学びが横たわっています。

Life, much like a story with unexpected plot twists, has its share of unforeseen endings.
人生には予想外のどんでん返しのある物語のように予想外の結末がつきものです。

Sometimes, these endings are heart-wrenching, like the sudden departure of a loved one.
時には突然愛する人を失うような心を痛める結末もあります。

And as we learned on our trip to Miyagi prefecture, seeing the horrific damage of the tsunami and listening to the stories of the locals who lost their homes, their friends, and their family members.
宮城県への修養会で学んだように、津波の悲惨な被害を目の当たりにし、家、友達、家族を失った地元の人々の話を聞くことができました。

I still remember our tour guide of the school, who said he was away at work when the earthquake hit.
地震が起きたとき、仕事で不在だったと言っていたツアーガイドさんのことをよく覚えています。

His mother, father, wife and dog were all at home.
彼の母親、父親、妻、犬はみんな家にいました。

They all got swept away.
みんな流されてしまいました。

He never saw them again.
彼らに二度と会うことはできません。

He never got to say goodbye.
さよならも言えませんでした。

Never forget about him.
このガイドさんの話してくれたことを決して忘れないでください。

The least we can do is to remember and learn from his tragedy.
私たちができる小さなことは、彼の悲劇を思い出し、そこから学ぶことです。

But what amazed me that most about him was that he didn’t give up on life.
私が一番驚いたのは、彼が人生を諦めなかったことです。

He kept going and used his tragedy to teach others.
彼は前に進み、自分の悲劇を他の人に教えることにしました。

And because of his resilience, we were able to gain a greater appreciation for everything we have.
お陰で、私たちは自分が持っている全てのことに対する、より大きな感謝を得ることができました。

In these moments, we can see the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment with those we love.
このような瞬間に、私達は人生のもろさと、愛する人達との一瞬一瞬を大切にすることの大切さを学びました。

The truth is, we never know when life might take an unexpected turn, bringing us face to face with goodbyes we never saw coming.
実際、人生はいつ予期せぬ方向に進み、来るとは思わなかった別れに直面するかもしれません。
This serves as a reminder to appreciate each moment.
一瞬一瞬をしっかり心に刻んでください。

Graduation is one such occasion—a time when the familiar rhythm of school life is about to shift, and our paths will diverge.
卒業はそのような機会の1つであり、馴染み深い学校生活のリズムが変化し、それぞれの進路が分かれる時です。

It’s an opportunity to reflect not only on personal achievements but also on the relationships that have shaped your high school experience.
自分が達成できたことだけでなく、自分の高校生活を色付けてくれた周りの人のことを考えるいい機会です。

Take a moment to express gratitude to your friends, teachers, and family members who have been a support throughout this journey.
この旅の中であなたたちを支えてくれた友達、ご家族、先生方に感謝の気持ちを表す時間をぜひ取ってください。

Their presence, guidance, and encouragement have played a major role in your growth and success.
彼らの存在、指導、励ましは、あなたの成長と成功において重要な役割を果たしたはずです。

In the midst of the excitement and anticipation for what lies ahead, don’t forget to appreciate your friends and classmates who have stood by you during the highs and lows of high school.
将来へのワクワクと期待の真っ最中に、高校時代の浮き沈みの時期にあなたに寄り添ってくれた友達や同級生への感謝を気持ちを忘れないでください。

As you approach your final days of high school, may you carry the lessons of appreciation, resilience, and gratitude with you.
高校生活最後の日を迎えるにあたって感謝、立ち直り、感謝の気持ちを忘れずに持ち続けて下さい。

Remember that life has moments both good and bad, expected and unexpected.
人生には良い時も悪い時も、予測可能な瞬間も予測できない瞬間もあります。

Embrace each ending as a stepping stone to a new beginning.
それぞれの節目を新しい始まりへの礎として大切にしてください。
